Fully Funded Academic & Humanitarian Research Expedition

Invitation from Victoria Martino, President and CEO of the Nation Voice Foundation

Dear Student,

Thank you for your interest in our upcoming academic research expedition to Rwanda.

As President and CEO of the Nation Voice Foundation, I am honored to invite you to apply for our fully funded Student Humanitarian Research Expedition, taking place from January 7 to January 17, 2026, in Rwanda.

This 11-day academic expedition is designed for students passionate about historical justice, international development, and global citizenship.

You will specialize in one of the following academic tracks:

  • Genocide Study & Historical Memory

  • Governance & International Relations

Both tracks are designed to strengthen your academic research, leadership, and global engagement skills. This program is especially relevant for students aspiring to careers with the United Nations, international NGOs, or in fields such as diplomacy, public policy, and peacebuilding.

Applications will be accepted until September 25, 2025.

We encourage curious, passionate students who are committed to human rights, justice, and academic excellence to apply.

I wish you the very best of luck and look forward to welcoming you to this extraordinary academic journey.

With sincere dedication,
Victoria Martino
President and CEO

Why this matters — to us, to you, and to me personally:

For our foundation

— this is a mission. We believe in students. We believe in guiding you forward — toward deeper understanding, real-world knowledge, and leadership rooted in compassion.

For you

— this is more than a research opportunity. This is your chance to learn, to listen, to engage with global realities, and to take what you discover into the future you’re building for yourself and for others.

And for me

— this is one of the most meaningful efforts of my life. To offer students a door into this kind of experience, to walk this journey with you, and to witness the change it will create — that, to me, is a victory.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How will the selection process work?

All applications will be reviewed by the Nation Voice Foundation team based on academic interests, motivation, leadership potential, and commitment to humanitarian values.
We are also working closely with university faculty members in New York State and Connecticut State to assist in the selection. Final selections will be made jointly by the Nation Voice Foundation and partnering universities. Only 10 students will be chosen — 5 for each research track.

Is this program fully funded?

Yes. The Nation Voice Foundation will cover all major expenses, including flights, accommodation, in-country transportation, meals, and all program activities in Rwanda. There are no participation fees for selected students.

Please note: Visa fees, travel vaccinations (if required), insurance, and personal expenses are not included and must be covered by the participant.

Will I need a passport or visa to travel?

Yes, all participants must have a valid passport. If selected, we will guide you through the visa application process, if necessary. Rwanda offers visa-on-arrival for U.S. citizens, but you must have a valid passport with at least six months’ validity.
To check the most updated visa information for your nationality, please visit the official website:

Can I choose my research track?

Yes. You will select your preferred track (either Genocide Study & Historical Memory or Governance & International Relations) when completing the application form. Track assignments will be finalized during the selection process.

What if I have scheduling conflicts with the Gala Dinner on October 16th?

Attendance at the Gala Dinner is required for all selected students. This event is an official part of the expedition launch, where you will be formally nominated. If you are unable to attend, unfortunately, you may forfeit your placement.

What kind of support will students receive during the expedition?

Students will be supported throughout the program by the Nation Voice Foundation team, local partners, and academic advisors. Orientation sessions, daily guidance, and safety briefings will be provided to ensure a smooth and meaningful experience.

Can students extend their stay in Rwanda after the expedition?

The official program ends on January 17th, 2026. Any extended personal travel would be at the student’s own responsibility and must be communicated in advance. Official group support will only be provided for the expedition dates.

Are any vaccinations required to join the expedition?

Vaccinations are not required unless you are traveling from a country with risk of yellow fever. However, for your own safety and the safety of local communities, vaccinations such as COVID-19, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Typhoid are recommended.
We advise you to consult your doctor and review guidelines on CDC.gov or the Rwanda Ministry of Health website.

Is Rwanda safe to travel to?

Yes, Rwanda is widely regarded as one of the safest countries in Africa. Our team works with trusted local partners and guides to ensure a secure and welcoming experience.

Will I have access to internet and phone service during the trip?

Most guest accommodations have Wi-Fi. You can also purchase a local SIM card with data at the airport or local shops.

Can I bring gifts or donations for the communities?

Yes, you may bring school supplies, books, or small gifts. We will provide further guidance on what is most useful, so your donations are meaningful and respectful.
