Washington, DC April 7, 2026 – On April 7, 2026, Nation Voice Foundation took part in Kwibuka 32 — the 32nd Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi — held at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy in Washington, D.C. The event, organized in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in the United States, brought together members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, academics, students, and the broader community to honor the victims of the genocide and reaffirm a shared commitment to remembrance and prevention.

Founder Victoria Martino represented Nation Voice Foundation at the gathering, themed “Remember – Unite – Renew.” The commemoration offered a moment of solemn reflection on one of the darkest chapters of the 20th century, while also looking forward to the progress Rwanda has made in the decades since.

Addressing the audience, Nick Checker, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, underscored the extraordinary path the country has taken since 1994: “In the 32 years since the Genocide against the Tutsi, Rwanda has undertaken a path that is, by any historical measure, extraordinary — restoring security, rebuilding institutions, and creating a national identity that rejects the divisions which made such violence possible.”

These conversations underscored the importance of cross-cultural dialogue and the role that civil society organizations can play in supporting nations on their path toward unity and renewal.
